Steve Bloomer’s Watching? Well there’s now an anthem been written for the Derby County Ladies. Do you want to hear it? Here we go... (song plays). ‘We Are The Ewe Rams Calling’. See get it? Ewe Rams! As I say it’s been written especially for Derby County Ladies by Bruno Gallone: local singer songwriter, and we think it’s the only anthem in the Country dedicated to a Women’s football team. Bruno’s on anyway, morning Bruno? BRUNO GALLONE – “Hi how are doing, alright?” IAN SKYE – “Good to talk to you again, how did this come about then? BRUNO GALLONE – “Do you know what? After the one I did for Derby (men) around October time, I got a note from a guy called Paul Topliff, and he said what about doing one for Derby County Ladies? And I kind of said of course yeh no problem. Well he then came back and said ‘How’s the song going’? and I then said oh fine, blimey I’ll do this then. So I then started putting the song together. The chorus came first, and then I nipped into the Studio and that’s the result of it now. I tried to do something a little bit different from the normal football songs by making it a little bit faster, and a bit more contemporary. IAN SKYE – “You happy with it?” BRUNO GALLONE – “Yes sometimes you come away from things and you’re not too sure. Traditionally football songs are 120 beats per minute, and most other songs are about 155 or something like that. I kind of started from that point, and had a listen, and by making it a bit more upbeat, it has a bit more bark to it I think.” IAN SKYE – “I like that side of it. What would you like to happen with it? I mean in the ideal world? BRUNO GALLONE – “Do you know what? I’ve no illusions about it, but (Derby County) Captain Hannah Ward tweeted and said how much she liked it, and so I’m just quite chuffed at the way it’s going, and if it brings a bit of good and gets the fans singing, that would be great.” IAN SKYE – “Well we played it to Duncan Gibb. Duncan’s the Chief Executive Officer of Derby County Ladies, who had this to say: DUNCAN GIBB – “I thought the song was very catchy. Some of these songs can be quite complex at times and fans kind of get lost a little bit, and find it difficult to remember all of it. That one didn’t seem to be the case. So you know I’m sitting there now thinking about future home games at Mickleover (Don Amott LG Arena – Mickleover Sports FC), and I can see our fans joining into that quite easily as well. The good thing is that we’re led to believe that our gates are the highest in the Women’s Premier League, so our fans are not averse to a sing-song, and all things told I can see our fans joining into that, and I think the players will like it as well.” IAN SKYE – “So it’s going to get a bit of an ‘outing’ at games I think?” BRUNO GALLONE – “Nice one I’m beaming with pride already Ian!” IAN SKYE – “That’s good isn’t it?” BRUNO GALLONE – “I wasn’t expecting that.” ************************************************** [From 1h:01m:34s to 1h:02m:09s] SALLY SWINFEN (News Bulletin) – “A song’s been written for the Derby County Ladies football team. Singer songwriter Bruno Gallone from Burton decided to do it after being asked by a fan. The song called ‘We Are The Ewe Rams Calling’ is thought to be the only one in the Country written for a ladies football team. Bruno says it marks the end of an era for him: BRUNO GALLONE – “I do enjoy writing them. It will probably be the last one I ever write as a football song because I’ve written a couple of England songs as well. But I suppose a song is a song you know, and while this is no Lennon and McCartney, it’s a good old sing along for the Derby fans.” |
