THE THIRD SEASON
THE THIRD SEASON
A much more even affair than last season. Anyone of 6 clubs could have won the Championship, but it was Mansfield Town who lifted the title, with Chesterfield 2nd and Parkgate 3rd. Telford United who were runners-up last season, finished in the relegation zone. However after a successful appeal against a late extension to the seasons final match date due to weather conditions, it was decided by the League's Management Committee, after consulting with the FA, that only Walsall Town would be relegated, and were therefore saved. At this point, the decision was taken to operate with 13 clubs next season. However, Kidderminster Harriers, who won the WMRL Championship declined promotion, so Lichfield Diamonds (runners-up), were promoted instead. Lincoln City who won the EMRL Championship were also promoted. During the summer break however, Arnold Town, who had just been promoted to the Midland Combination, collapsed, and the league was restored to its usual 12 clubs. Wyrley Rangers changed their name to Walsall Town and Kilnhurst Shooting Stars changed their name to Parkgate. Newcastle Town were relegated from the National Division after just one season, and changed their name to Port Vale.
